About the Role:

We are looking for a dedicated and detail-oriented Accounts Assistant to join our growing Finance team. Reporting directly to the Senior Finance Manager, you will be an integral part of a small team of four. To thrive at Smarkets, you will need to be open-minded, personable, and have a keen eye for detail, with the ability to analyze and communicate insights from data.

What you will do:

  • Prepare and process AP invoices
  • Review and reconcile bank statements on a regular basis to ensure accuracy
  • Perform AP balance sheet reconciliations and resolve discrepancies
  • Review and manage open Purchase Orders
  • Ensure all supplier accounts are reconciled against supplier statements
  • Schedule and process payments per company policy
  • Manage vendor payment queries
  • Process staff expenses and approvals
  • Monitor daily cash flows, ensuring sufficient funds are available for operations
  • Provide weekly and monthly reports to regulated gaming authorities, ensuring compliance with regulations
  • Support monthly Management Accounts and journal entries
  • Assist with financial audits

Role Requirements:

  • Proficiency in Excel
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • A strong ability to multitask and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • A methodical and focused approach to working in a fluid and flexible work environment
  • Good communication skills
  • 1+ years of public practice experience
  • Experience with Light Inc. accounting software is desirable
  • Experience with working with auditors - desirable but not essential
  • Part-qualified Accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) - desirable but not essential
  • Degree in Accounting or related business field - desirable but not essential
  • Have worked or are curious to work in an agile, start-up-like environment
  • Have experience or are keen to work in a multi-disciplinary team/across different teams
