Assistant Accountant – Trading & Investment - £45,000-£50,000

An award-winning quantitative trading and investment firm is seeking a very talented Assistant Accountant to join its Finance function. This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive, numerate finance professional to take ownership of a broad and varied remit within a fast-paced, intellectually stimulating environment. They are also open to fresh grads.

The Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for the accurate and timely processing and production of financial information, playing an integral part in the firm's financial health and operational efficiency. This is a role with genuine scope to redesign and improve processes, working alongside a dynamic and diverse finance team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the production of monthly management accounts and assist in preparing financial statements, delivering accurate and timely reporting to internal and external stakeholders
  • Analyse financial data to support business decision-making
  • Develop and implement automation solutions for recurring financial tasks, leveraging coding and scripting languages such as Python, SQL and VBA to streamline data handling and reporting
  • Collaborate with IT and finance teams to optimise systems and workflows
  • Assist in maintaining accurate general ledger entries, journal postings and key account reconciliations
  • Support the budgeting and forecasting process, including data collection, variance analysis and maintenance of financial models
  • Ensure adherence to company policies and regulatory standards, supporting audit processes with necessary documentation

About You

  • Proactive and self-motivated, with a very high level of initiative and a commitment to the highest standards of work
  • Logical, numerate and detail-oriented, with strong critical thinking skills and a genuine interest in working with data
  • An effective communicator, comfortable collaborating with a range of technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Conscientious, with a clear understanding of the importance of accuracy and diligence in this role

Skills & Experience

  • Strong Excel skills (including macros and pivot tables), with hands-on experience using SQL, Python or VBA; familiarity with data visualisation tools such as Power BI or Tableau is advantageous. There will be a test at interview stage.
  • Familiarity with accounting software

Academic Requirements

  • A strong degree in accounting, finance, or another analytical discipline
  • Part-qualified or actively studying towards ACCA, CIMA or ACA
