I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

About you
We're looking for someone who is accurate, organised and comfortable dealing with a reasonable volume of financial transactions. Previous experience working in an accounts or bookkeeping environment would be ideal, and experience using Xero would be a significant advantage. You don't need to be a qualified accountant. What's more important to us is that you're numerate, methodical, comfortable using accounting software and able to take responsibility for keeping the day-to-day accounts organised and accurate. You'll also need to be comfortable communicating with suppliers, customers and other members of the team when something doesn't quite add up.

About Quantum Tuning
Quantum Tuning is an established automotive technology company providing ECU tuning software and services to a large network of dealers in the UK and internationally. We're a relatively small team, so this isn't a role where you'll disappear into a large finance department. You'll have responsibility for an important part of the day-to-day running of the business and work directly with the wider team.
