ROLE OVERVIEW
The Accounts Assistant plays a crucial role at BW Business Accountants & Advisers. They are responsible for supporting the Client Manager and Assistant Accountant to provide high-quality accounting services and financial expertise to our clients.
This is a varied role covering bookkeeping, bank reconciliations, payroll and VAT and self-assessment return preparation. You'll work with a range of growing SME clients and have the opportunity to develop your accounting knowledge and skills in a supportive environment.
We're looking for someone who is at least AAT Level 3 qualified, with a good understanding of accounting and a genuine interest in helping businesses succeed.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial Data & Bookkeeping
- Ensure accurate and timely input of financial transactions into our clients' cloud-based accounting system.
- Regularly update and maintain our clients’ financial records.
Bank Reconciliations
- Conduct monthly bank reconciliations for our clients to maintain alignment between their financial records and bank statements.
- Promptly address and resolve any discrepancies, upholding our commitment to accuracy and transparency.

Self-Assessment & VAT Return Preparation
- Assist in the preparation of self-assessment returns for sole traders, ensuring compliance with current regulations and optimising tax efficiency.
- Contribute to the accurate and timely completion of VAT returns.
Payroll
- Run monthly payrolls for our clients in Xero.
- Liaise with our outsourced payroll provider for more complex payrolls as needed.
Collaboration
- Collaborate seamlessly with colleagues to ensure the smooth delivery of our services and uphold our high levels of customer service.
Adherence to Regulatory Requirements
- Stay informed about changes in accounting regulations and ensure compliance in all financial activities, incorporating an awareness of evolving social and environmental standards.
Technology Adoption
- Utilise cloud-based accounting software and other relevant technologies to streamline processes and improve efficiency.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest accounting software and tools, providing recommendations for their adoption.
KEY SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- AAT Level 3 qualified, or equivalent accounting experience.
- Experience using Xero cloud accounting software.
- Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Familiarity with UK accounting standards and regulations.
- A motivated self-starter who is able to work from home without supervision.

SALARY & HOURS
- Hours: Full or part time, minimum 20 hours per week
- Basis: Employed or self-employed
- Salary: £27,000 – £30,000 FTE, depending on experience
The role is predominantly remote, with occasional in-person meetings in Bristol, so we are ideally looking for someone based in or around Bristol. The successful candidate MUST be based in the UK.
The role can be offered on either full-time or part-time basis, and on an employed or self-employed basis, with working hours and days to be discussed with the successful candidate.
