Accounts Assistant - Group

This is a varied role with responsibility across purchase ledger and subcontractor payments, providing an excellent opportunity for an experienced financial professional who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment where accuracy and attention to detail are essential.

Working closely with the Accounts Team Leader, you will take ownership of your own portfolio of supplier accounts while supporting the wider accounts team with weekly and monthly processing.

You will play an important role in ensuring payments are processed accurately and on time, with all relevant information appropriately authorised and any discrepancies identified, investigated, and resolved.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Managing your own portfolio of supplier accounts.
  • Processing purchase ledger invoices and obtaining the appropriate authorisation.
  • Resolving supplier queries and completing regular statement reconciliations.
  • Reconciling and processing utility invoices.
  • Reconciling and processing company fleet invoices.
  • Checking and processing weekly staff labour wages through payroll.
  • Processing weekly subcontractor wages through Hudson.
  • Preparing and processing weekly subcontractor payments.
  • Supporting the preparation of the monthly payroll for review.
  • Processing commission payments and employee expense claims.
  • Ensuring payroll and payment information is accurate and appropriately authorised.
  • Investigating and challenging discrepancies where necessary.
  • Maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring deadlines are consistently met.
  • Providing support across the wider Accounts team as required.

About You:

  • A minimum of 2 years' experience in a similar role within a fast-paced Accounts or Finance department.
  • Experience dealing with subcontractor payments would be advantageous.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach to your work.
  • The confidence to investigate discrepancies and query information where required.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • The ability to work independently while also contributing effectively to a wider team.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to build effective working relationships with suppliers and colleagues.
  • GCSE Grade A–C (or equivalent) in English and Maths.

Desirable Experience:

  • Experience using COINS.
  • AAT qualification or equivalent demonstrable experience.
  • Experience within the housebuilding, construction, or property sector.
  • Experience processing subcontractor wages and payments.
