A growing accountancy and business advisory firm is seeking an experienced Accounts Director to join its Bolton team, offering hybrid working.

The role involves managing a portfolio of clients, providing strategic financial advice, overseeing complex accounts and tax work, and leading a team of managers and accountants.

The successful candidate will build key client relationships, drive business development, and contribute to the firm's wider strategic growth, including process improvements and digital transformation.

Accounts Director Overview

  • Managing a portfolio of clients and acting as the senior contact for accounting, compliance, and advisory matters.
  • Providing strategic financial guidance and developing long-term client relationships.
  • Overseeing and reviewing statutory accounts, management accounts, and tax returns.
  • Reviewing complex work and ensuring technical accuracy and quality standards.
  • Leading, mentoring, and developing managers and wider team members.
  • Identifying additional service opportunities and contributing to business development.
  • Monitoring client deadlines, budgets, profitability, and team KPIs.
  • Driving process improvements, automation, data analytics, and AI initiatives.
  • Supporting senior leadership with strategic planning and operational improvements.
  • Maintaining current knowledge of accounting standards, tax legislation, and industry developments.
  • Building professional networks and identifying new business opportunities.

Accounts Director Requirements

  • Significant accountancy practice experience, ideally at Director or senior management level.
  • Strong technical knowledge across accounts, tax, and compliance.
  • Proven experience managing client portfolios and providing strategic financial advice.
  • Strong leadership and team management experience.
  • Excellent commercial awareness and business development skills.
  • Strong client relationship, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Experience with process improvement and digital transformation would be advantageous.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and customer service.
