Coast & Country Parks (C&C), is a family-owned business, offering holidays and holiday home ownership across four holiday parks in Somerset, Devon and Cornwall. Speedy Storage, based in Highbridge Somerset, provides affordable and secure storage and business space solutions for its customers. Spread across 3 locations in Highbridge, we operate a variety of commercial property assets with a great reputation. https://www.speedystorage.space/

The James Family founded and have operated both businesses since 1988. Ian and Francesca James started both businesses and are based locally in Somerset. Their youngest son, Chris, oversees the smooth running of both businesses. The family are looking for an experienced and driven individual to join the group, help drive the group onwards, working with the Senior Leadership Team.

Position

The Accounts & Finance Manager will form a vital part of the business group and must be able to work effectively in a fast-paced, multi-faceted and entrepreneurial environment. Duties and responsibilities across the group include the following:

  • Lead the Accounting function of the group; responsibility for general book-keeping and maintenance of company ledgers, cash and bank account reconciliations, regular reporting of financial performance, and all necessary tax returns
  • Recruit, manage and mentor an Office & Book-keeping Assistant, and supervise their workflow and ongoing routine/tasks
  • Work with Business Owners to prepare and report on departmental targets/budgets as well as cash flow forecasts and management accounts
  • Report company financial performance monthly and quarterly, with critical analysis and comparisons against drafted budgets and forecasts using Xero Dashboards and Analytics
  • Accurate coding or sales/purchase invoices and other expenses, all input into Xero
  • Ensure company’s ledgers are kept up-to-date in real time, reporting inaccuracies and irregularities promptly to the Senior Leadership Team
  • Any other additional book-keeping and other duties involved in the day to day running and advancement of the Group
  • Timely and accurate submissions of tax filings:
    • Coordinate regular VAT returns, including consideration of complex and differing VAT treatment across the group’s product lines (explanations and training provided)
    • Assist the groups auditors with related tax calculations
  • Coordinate team, cards, cash and other outgoings
  • Run monthly payroll
  • Onboard new starters
  • Regular reconciliation of team credit card statements and office cash sheets
  • Manage Debtors; assist Departmental Heads with credit and stock control
  • With the Senior Leadership Team and third-party auditors, commission annual company audits
  • Prepare updated provisional accounts and relevant information bundles for commencement of audits
  • Promptly answer queries raised, provide administrative and clerical support where needed
  • File all historical records, maintain statutory tax records
  • Assist with the sourcing, execution and maintenance of debt, equity or other financing, and future acquisition of commercial property.
  • Improve and refine the group’s accounts-related procedural and operational set-up, suggesting efficiency measures where appropriate

Skills & Qualifications

Ideal candidates will have formal qualifications and at least 5 years accounting experience. Essential criteria include:

  • Expert competency and experience with Xero
  • Competency in Stripe, EPOS, PMS, Amazon Business
  • Advanced computer literacy, in particular Google Workspace and Microsoft
  • Self-directed, highly motivated
  • Organised and excellent communicator
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet targets and deadlines
  • Excellent analytical ability and attention to detail
