We are recruiting on behalf of our client, an established contracting and construction business based in Liverpool, delivering a range of specialist construction, contracting and associated services to commercial and private-sector clients.
The business works across a variety of projects, providing professional contracting solutions from initial planning and coordination through to project completion. Due to continued growth, they are now looking to appoint an experienced Accounts Ledger to join their finance team on a permanent basis.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced finance professional who is confident managing day-to-day ledger responsibilities and has hands-on experience using Xero accounting software.
The Role
The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records and supporting the wider finance function. You will need to have previous experience working within an accounts environment, with a strong understanding of ledger processes and excellent attention to detail.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date accounting records.
- Manage purchase and sales ledger processes.
- Process supplier invoices, credit notes, and payments.
- Raise and process customer invoices.
- Reconcile supplier and customer accounts.
- Carry out regular bank reconciliations.
- Monitor outstanding invoices and assist with credit control.
- Process payments and maintain accurate payment records.
- Investigate and resolve invoice and account discrepancies.
- Allocate incoming and outgoing payments correctly.
- Maintain accurate supplier and customer records.
- Assist with month-end accounting procedures and reconciliations.
- Support the preparation of financial reports and management information.
- Assist with VAT-related processes and provide information as required.
- Liaise with suppliers, customers, and internal teams regarding account queries.
- Ensure financial information is entered accurately and in a timely manner.
- Assist the wider accounts team with general finance and administrative duties.
- Maintain confidentiality of financial and commercially sensitive information.
- Ensure processes are followed and records are maintained in line with company requirements.

Essential Experience & Skills
- Previous experience working in an accounts/finance role is essential.
- Proven experience within a purchase ledger, sales ledger, or general accounts position.
- Hands-on experience using Xero accounting software is essential.
- Good understanding of bookkeeping and double-entry accounting principles.
- Experience with bank and account reconciliations.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good organizational and time-management skills.
- Confident communicating with suppliers, customers, and colleagues.
- Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- A professional and proactive approach to work.

Desirable
- Experience working within the construction or contracting sector.
- Experience supporting month-end accounts.
- Experience with VAT returns and associated accounting processes.
- Relevant AAT qualification or equivalent finance experience.
What We're Looking For
We are looking for someone who is experienced, reliable, and detail-focused, with the confidence to take ownership of day-to-day ledger responsibilities. The successful candidate will be comfortable working in a busy environment, have a strong understanding of accounts processes, and be able to hit the ground running with Xero. This is a permanent, office-based opportunity based in Liverpool.
