Location: Harlow, Essex - Hybrid 4 days per week office based
We are recruiting for an experienced Accounts Manager to join a successful and growing accountancy practice.
This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious qualified accounting professional with in excess of 5 years strong UK practice experience to take responsibility for a varied client portfolio whilst also managing and developing a team.
The Role
You will be responsible for delivering high-quality accounting services while building strong client relationships and supporting the continued growth of the practice. This role will appeal to a candidate who is keen to join an organisation where they will have a clear progression path to Director.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing a diverse portfolio of clients across a range of sectors.
- Overseeing the preparation and delivery of statutory accounts, management accounts, VAT returns and tax computations.
- Managing a team, planning and allocating work to ensure assignments are completed accurately, on time and within budget.
- Coaching, mentoring and developing Assistant Managers, Seniors and Trainees.
- Conducting 1:1s, appraisals and supporting progression within the team.
- Reviewing accounts and tax computations and resolving technical queries.
- Managing WIP, billing, recovery rates, fees and scope changes.
- Acting as a key point of contact for clients, providing proactive advice and identifying opportunities to add value.
- Ensuring compliance with UK GAAP, particularly FRS 102 and FRS 105.
- Supporting Directors with proposals, pitches and new business opportunities.
- Contributing to improvements in internal processes, systems and efficiencies.

About You
The successful candidate will ideally have:
- ACA, ACCA or equivalent professional qualification.
- 5+ years' experience within a UK accountancy practice.
- Strong technical knowledge of UK GAAP, particularly FRS 102.
- Extensive experience preparing and reviewing statutory accounts, VAT returns and corporate tax computations.
- Experience with accounting software such as CCH, Xero, Sage and QuickBooks.
- A good understanding of WIP, billing and commercial performance.
- Previous experience managing, mentoring and developing junior team members.
- Strong client relationship and communication skills.
- The confidence to discuss fees, scope changes and additional services with clients.
- Excellent organisational, analytical and problem-solving skills.
