Accounts Payable Analyst

Job Description

The Accounts Payable Analyst supports the Accounts Payable team in delivering accurate and timely processing of invoices, expenses, and payments across the Procure-to-Pay lifecycle. This role is designed to provide practical work experience while developing knowledge of finance systems, controls, supplier processes, and stakeholder service in a structured learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

Invoice and Expense Processing

  • Support the processing of supplier invoices and employee expenses accurately and on time.
  • Check invoices for completeness, correct coding, approvals, and supporting documentation.
  • Assist with matching purchase orders, receipts, and invoices where applicable.
  • Escalate discrepancies or missing information to the appropriate team member.

Supplier and Query Support

  • Respond to routine supplier and internal queries in a professional and timely manner.
  • Help maintain accurate supplier records and support supplier onboarding activities.
  • Assist with validating changes to supplier information in line with team procedures.

Payments and Reconciliations Support

  • Provide support with payment preparation activities and routine checks.
  • Assist with supplier statement reconciliations and follow up on outstanding items.
  • Support month-end activities by preparing information and completing assigned tasks.

Compliance and Controls

  • Follow Accounts Payable procedures, internal controls, and approval requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure documentation is audit ready.
  • Learn and apply key tax, compliance, and policy checks relevant to invoice processing.

Systems, Learning and Team Support

  • Use finance systems and Microsoft Office tools to complete daily tasks.
  • Participate in training and development activities to build knowledge of AP processes and controls.
  • Support continuous improvement activities and contribute ideas to improve team efficiency.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across Finance, Procurement, and the wider business.

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • A strong interest in finance, accounting, or business administration.
  • Good attention to detail and a willingness to learn.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage routine tasks effectively.
  • Basic numerical skills and confidence working with data.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work well as part of a team and build positive working relationships.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • A willingness to study towards, or currently be studying, a relevant finance or business qualification is desirable.
  • Previous office or customer service experience would be beneficial but is not essential.

  • Accuracy and timeliness of invoice and expense processing tasks assigned.
  • Completion of training objectives and progress in developing AP knowledge.
  • Timely resolution or escalation of routine supplier and internal queries.
  • Quality and completeness of supporting documentation and record keeping.
  • Adherence to team procedures, controls, and service standards.
  • Positive contribution to team objectives and collaborative working.
