Hays are delighted to be partnering with a prestigious organisation in Bedfordshire to recruit an experienced Accounts Payable Clerk to join their finance team on a temporary full time basis.
Your new role
This is an excellent opportunity for an organised and detail-oriented finance professional with solid purchase ledger experience to join a busy finance function and play a key role in ensuring the smooth processing of supplier payments and expenses.
The Role
As part of an established Accounts Payable team, you will be responsible for managing supplier invoices, payment processing and expense claims, ensuring all transactions are processed accurately and within agreed timescales.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Processing and matching supplier invoices to purchase orders
- Managing and responding to Accounts Payable mailbox queries
- Reconciling supplier statements and resolving payment discrepancies
- Scanning, capturing and maintaining invoice records within the finance system
- Monitoring outstanding invoices and workflow approvals
- Assisting with weekly and monthly BACS payment runs
- Processing staff and student expense claims
- Supporting foreign supplier payments and payment administration
- Investigating and resolving invoice and payment-related queries
- Ensuring compliance with internal financial controls and procedures

What you'll need to succeed
- Previous Accounts Payable / Purchase Ledger experience
- Strong understanding of the end-to-end P2P (Purchase-to-Pay) process
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong numerical and analytical skills
- Good Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel
- Ability to prioritise workloads and meet deadlines
- Strong communication skills with the confidence to liaise with internal stakeholders and suppliers
- A proactive and collaborative approach to work
- Experience using Agresso or ERP systems would be beneficial
- Studying towards AAT qualifications desirable
