About the Role

We are currently seeking to recruit a highly motivated and proactive individual to join our Finance Department as an Accounts Payable Clerk at our Castleford site, reporting to the Head of Financial Accounting.

The role is responsible for maintaining the accurate and timely processing of supplier invoices, payments and account reconciliations. You will support the smooth operation of the Finance function by ensuring supplier transactions are recorded correctly, payments are made in accordance with agreed terms and appropriate financial controls are maintained.

Responsibilities

  • Receive, review and process supplier invoices and credit notes accurately and promptly.
  • Ensure the correct VAT codes are selected.
  • Match invoices against purchase orders and goods received notes.
  • Ensure purchase orders have been raised for all relevant invoices.
  • Resolve invoice discrepancies with suppliers and internal departments.
  • Code employee expenses to the correct trial balance code, department and site.
  • Reconcile supplier statements and investigate outstanding items.
  • Respond to supplier enquiries professionally and promptly.
  • Develop positive working relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
  • Monitor aged creditor balances and investigate overdue accounts.
  • Assist with month-end close activities.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing relevant documentation and explanations.
  • Review supplier payments and ensure payment runs include any overdue items.
  • Ensure compliance with Company policies, tax regulations and internal controls.

Required Skills

  • Previous experience within an accounts payable, purchase ledger or similar Finance role.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
  • Good organisational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Professional and accountable approach to work.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Results-focused with a continuous improvement mindset.

Preferred Skills

  • Previous experience using business applications and ERP systems such as SAP.
  • Previous Accounts Payable experience.
  • Experience of supplier statement reconciliations, invoice processing and payment runs would be advantageous.
