Accounts Payable Manager

Job Overview

As an Accounts Payable Manager in the property sector, based in Peterborough, you'll take charge of the day-to-day management of the accounts payable function.

A property-focused organisation based in Peterborough.

Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Accounts Payable Manager to lead and transform the AP function. This role will be responsible for driving performance, improving processes, and ensuring the efficient management of supplier payments whilst leading a small team.

  • Take ownership of the accounts payable function, ensuring timely and accurate processing of invoices and payments.
  • Lead, develop and motivate the AP team, creating a culture of accountability and high performance.
  • Manage supplier relationships, proactively resolving payment issues, disputes and escalations.
  • Address existing backlogs and implement solutions to improve service levels and supplier satisfaction.
  • Review and strengthen controls around PR/PO processes, payment approvals and financial governance.
  • Identify and deliver opportunities for automation, streamlining manual processes and increasing efficiency.
  • Produce management information and reports on AP performance, KPIs and key process improvements.
  • Work closely with stakeholders across the business to enhance financial operations and support business objectives.

Profile

A Successful Accounts Payable Manager Should Have

  • Proven experience managing an Accounts Payable function within a fast-paced environment.
  • A strong track record of implementing process improvements, driving efficiencies and introducing automation.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage performance and handle challenging team dynamics.
  • An approachable but firm management style, with excellent relationship-building skills.
  • Experience improving controls around purchasing, purchase order and payment processes.
  • Excellent organisational, problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Strong systems knowledge and confidence working with financial software and ERP platforms.
  • Ideally around 10 years' experience within Accounts Payable or a related finance function.
  • A high level of attention to detail and commitment to process accuracy and compliance.
  • Able to commit to 5 days a week in the Peterborough office.
