Role Overview

As an Accounts Payable Officer, you will be responsible for the accurate and timely processing of supplier invoices, credit notes, and payments, ensuring compliance with financial controls, company policies, and agreed payment terms. You will maintain supplier records, resolve invoice and payment queries, reconcile supplier accounts, and support month-end and audit activities. Working closely with suppliers and internal stakeholders, you will help ensure efficient accounts payable processes while identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Experience working in an Accounts Payable, Finance Assistant, or similar finance role.
  • Knowledge of invoice processing, supplier payments, and account reconciliations.
  • Experience matching invoices to purchase orders and investigating discrepancies.
  • Understanding of financial controls, VAT requirements, and audit compliance.
  • Strong attention to detail with a high level of accuracy when handling financial data.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent problem-solving and query-resolution skills.
  • Good communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively with suppliers and internal teams.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Experience using finance or ERP systems and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.

  • Experience supporting month-end close activities, including accruals and reporting.
  • Experience working within a purchase order and goods receipting environment.
  • Experience identifying and implementing process improvements.
  • Knowledge of supplier master data management and governance controls.
  • Qualifications: GCSEs (or equivalent) including Mathematics and English at Grade C/4 or above. AAT qualification or working towards a recognised accounting qualification is desirable.

Working Arrangements

Hybrid: Work remotely up to 2 days per week.
