Accounts Receivable Officer

The City of London Corporation is seeking an experienced and customer-focused Accounts Receivable Officer to join its Finance team on an initial 3-month contract. Based at the historic Guildhall, this hybrid role offers an excellent opportunity to work within a high-performing revenue collection function that is responsible for managing commercial rents, service charges and a wide range of miscellaneous income streams.

If you have experience within accounts receivable, income recovery, credit control or revenue collection and enjoy delivering excellent customer service while ensuring outstanding financial accuracy, we'd love to hear from you.

Location: Guildhall, London, Hybrid Working, 3 days per week based onsite
Pay rate: £21.32 per hour via PAYE or £27.80 per hour via Umbrella
Contract: 3-Month Contract (with possibility of further extensions)

The Role

Working closely with the Accounts Receivable Manager, you will support the administration, monitoring and collection of income owed to the City of London Corporation. You will play a key role in ensuring accounts are accurately maintained, customer queries are resolved efficiently, and outstanding debts are managed professionally to maximise collection rates. This is a varied role that combines financial administration, customer service and debt recovery responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate customer and account records across Accounts Receivable systems.
  • Set up new customer accounts and update existing customer information.
  • Record recovery actions, payment arrangements and customer communications.
  • Handle enquiries from tenants, customers and members of the public via telephone, email and written correspondence.
  • Liaise with internal departments regarding disputes, payment arrangements and recovery actions.
  • Investigate and allocate payments and credit notes accurately in line with organisational policies.
  • Produce account statements, copy invoices and other supporting documentation as required.
  • Process refunds arising from account amendments and overpayments, ensuring compliance with established procedures.
  • Support the recovery and enforcement of outstanding debts in accordance with City Corporation guidelines.
  • Contact debtors to discuss overdue accounts and negotiate appropriate short-term payment arrangements.
  • Monitor payment plans and take appropriate action where arrangements are not maintained.
  • Assist with preparing cases for debt write-off when all recovery options have been exhausted.
  • Ensure invoices, reminders and final demands are issued within agreed timescales.
  • Maintain statistical information and support reporting requirements within the Accounts Receivable team.
