Are you an experienced practice accountant who would like more than simply preparing the next set of accounts? We are working with a highly regarded accountancy firm that is looking to add an Accounts Senior to its growing Colchester team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys delivering high-quality accounts work but would also like to become more commercially involved, build stronger client relationships and contribute to the continued development of the office.
You will manage a varied workload for owner-managed businesses across a broad range of sectors, working closely with senior colleagues and Partners. Alongside the technical responsibilities, you will be encouraged to attend local events, develop your professional network and help identify opportunities to support both existing and prospective clients.
This is not a heavily targeted sales role. It would suit someone who is naturally confident with clients, commercially curious and keen to play a visible part in the growth of a successful team.

- Use cloud-based accounting software including Xero, QuickBooks and Sage.
- Support and provide guidance to more junior members of the team where appropriate.
- Work closely with colleagues and specialist teams to provide a joined-up service to clients.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
