Accounts Senior

Leeds / Hybrid – 3 days office, 2 days home
£38,000 to £42,000 depending on experience + commission
25 days holiday + Christmas shutdown + birthday off

We are looking for an experienced Accounts Senior to join our growing accountancy practice in Leeds.

If you are looking for a role where you can take ownership of your own client portfolio, build genuine relationships with business owners and do more than simply process accounts and tick boxes, this could be a great next step.

We’re a small, friendly and ambitious team working with a wide range of SMEs. We want our clients to understand their numbers, make better decisions and ultimately build stronger businesses.

You’ll have plenty of autonomy, direct client contact and the opportunity to get involved across accounts, tax, management accounts and advisory work.

We also believe in giving people flexibility in how they work. Our usual hybrid pattern is Monday, Tuesday and Thursday in our Leeds office, with Wednesday and Friday working from home. However, we understand that life doesn’t always fit neatly around a set schedule, so we’re happy to be flexible with office days where needed.

Role Overview

You will manage your own portfolio of clients and work closely with them throughout the year, rather than only speaking to them when their accounts are due.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing year-end accounts for limited companies, LLPs, sole traders and partnerships
  • Preparing and submitting corporation tax and partnership tax returns
  • Reviewing accounts, tax returns and bookkeeping
  • Preparing and submitting VAT returns
  • Producing bookkeeping and management accounts
  • Managing your own portfolio and ensuring deadlines are met
  • Communicating directly with clients and responding to day-to-day queries
  • Helping clients understand their accounts, tax position and business performance
  • Identifying ways to improve processes and the overall client experience
  • Supporting and working collaboratively with the wider team

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

Depending on your experience, there will also be opportunities to prepare personal tax returns and become increasingly involved in advisory work.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone with solid experience gained within an accountancy practice who is comfortable taking responsibility for their own work and dealing directly with clients.

Ideally, you will have:

  • Previous experience as an Accounts Senior, Senior Accountant or similar within an accountancy practice
  • Strong experience preparing year-end accounts for SMEs
  • Experience preparing corporation tax returns
  • Experience with VAT returns, bookkeeping and management accounts
  • Confidence managing your own workload and client deadlines
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build good relationships with clients
  • A commercial mindset and an interest in understanding the businesses you work with
  • A positive, approachable attitude and willingness to get involved
  • A genuine desire to deliver a great service and make a difference to clients

You may be ACA or ACCA qualified, part-qualified or qualified by experience. We’re more interested in finding someone with the right practice experience, technical knowledge and approach.

Personal tax experience would be an advantage but isn’t essential.

Why Join Us?

Because we’re a smaller practice, you won’t be one person in a large accounts department. You’ll work closely with the owners and experienced colleagues, have direct access to clients and gain exposure to different areas of the practice.

You’ll also have the opportunity to contribute ideas and have genuine input into how we develop and improve our services.

We’re ambitious about doing accountancy differently and building long-term relationships with our clients. We want someone who shares that mindset and wants the opportunity to develop alongside the business.

We also want our team to have a good balance between work and life outside of work. While our usual office days are Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, we’re not unnecessarily rigid about this. If you need some flexibility from time to time, we’ll do our best to accommodate it, provided client needs and the work are covered.

What We Offer

  • Salary of £38,000 to £42,000 depending on experience
  • Commission opportunity
  • Hybrid working – typically 3 days in the office and 2 days from home
  • Usual office days of Monday, Tuesday and Thursday
  • Flexibility to adjust office days where needed
  • 25 days annual leave
  • Christmas period off without using your annual leave
  • Your birthday off as an additional day’s holiday
  • Employee referral scheme
  • Employee benefits package including cost-of-living support and mental health and wellbeing benefits
  • Regular team socials
  • Casual dress
  • Exposure to a varied SME client portfolio
  • Opportunity to develop into more advisory and higher-level client work
  • A supportive, friendly team where your ideas will be heard
