The Role

The organisation seeks an experienced Accounts Senior to take ownership of core accounting deliverables and provide insightful client advice. The role involves managing a portfolio of clients, overseeing the preparation of management and statutory accounts, and reviewing work to ensure quality and compliance. The ideal candidate will interpret financial data, identify risks and opportunities, and communicate effectively with clients and team members.

  • Manage daily client activities, ensuring timely delivery of accounts, VAT, and management reports.
  • Prepare and review year-end accounts for audit-exempt entities, drawing from client and outsourced bookkeeping data.
  • Oversee bookkeeping, VAT returns, and management accounts, maintaining strict quality standards.
  • Lead workflow and prioritisation across multiple client assignments, adhering to deadlines.
  • Provide coaching and guidance to junior team members to foster their development.
  • Drive continuous improvement by suggesting process automation and system enhancements.
  • Build strong relationships with clients, delivering proactive and insightful financial guidance.

Person

The right candidate will bring a solid background in accountancy practice, with the skills to deliver high-quality accounts and insightful financial analysis. They will be confident in managing client relationships and leading workflow in a fast-moving environment.

Mandatory

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience producing year-end accounts for corporate and unincorporated clients, ideally within practice or professional services.
  • Fully qualified or actively working towards ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA, or equivalent.
  • Proven practical experience with bookkeeping, VAT returns, management accounts, and IFRS/UK GAAP standards.
  • Skilled in cloud accounting software (Xero, Sage, QuickBooks) and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong review, quality control, and workflow management capabilities.
  • Excellent client relationship and communication skills, with confidence to challenge constructively.

Preferred

  • Experience with automation tools and AI-enabled systems.
  • Knowledge of ERP platforms such as SAP, Oracle, or Dynamics.
  • Ability to interpret financial data to spot risks, trends, and opportunities.
  • Skills in data analytics tools like Power BI or Tableau.
  • Experience working in a client advisory environment or supporting process improvements.
