Interculture CIC Volunteer Opportunity
Interculture CIC is a small, disabled-led, Global Majority-focused organisation in Bristol. We need a volunteer with bookkeeping or accounts experience to help manage payroll (PAYE) for one member of staff and support us in preparing our annual accounts.
What difference will you make?
As a small organisation, accurate payroll and financial record-keeping are essential but easy to fall behind on without dedicated support. Your work processing PAYE will make sure our staff member is paid correctly and on time, every time, which matters directly to someone's livelihood.
Your support with our annual accounts will help us stay compliant with our obligations as a community interest company, and will free up time within our small team to focus on the frontline workshops and community projects we exist to deliver.
In short, your time will help us stay financially accountable and organised, which underpins everything else we do as an organisation.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for someone with genuine bookkeeping or accounts experience, at any level, who can bring accuracy, reliability and a good eye for detail to our finances.
Most important is practical experience with payroll or PAYE, since this role includes processing pay for one member of staff and making sure this is done correctly and on time every period. This does not need to come from a formal accounting job. Experience managing payroll or accounts for a small business, community group, or as part of a professional qualification would all be relevant.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
Confidence with everyday accounting or bookkeeping software is important, as is a comfortable, methodical approach to reconciling records and spotting errors before they become problems. You do not need to be a fully qualified accountant. We would be glad to hear from AAT students, part-qualified accountants, or people with solid hands-on bookkeeping experience gained outside formal study.
Because this role involves handling payroll and financial information for a real member of staff, discretion and a clear understanding of confidentiality are essential. We need someone who takes data protection seriously and who we can trust with sensitive information.
As a small organisation, we also value someone who is comfortable working independently once they understand a task, communicates clearly if something is unclear or delayed, and is realistic and honest with us about their capacity, particularly around key payroll dates and our year-end.
Beyond the technical skills, we would love to hear from people who are curious about how a small community interest company runs financially, and who are interested in supporting an organisation working on disability, Global Majority representation and community belonging, even if this is not the main reason you are applying.
In summary, the qualities that matter most are real payroll or bookkeeping experience, reliability with recurring deadlines, strong attention to detail, and a trustworthy approach to confidential financial information.

What will you be doing?
Interculture CIC is a Bristol-based, disabled-led and Global Majority-focused community interest company. We run workshops and community projects on allyship, intersectionality, neurodiversity and belonging, working closely with health, education and voluntary sector partners across Bristol.
As a small organisation, we need practical support to keep our finances accurate and compliant, and we are looking for a volunteer with bookkeeping or accounts experience to help with two connected areas of work.
The first is payroll processing PAYE for one member of staff, including the associated HMRC submissions, so that pay is accurate and on time each period.
The second is supporting our annual accounts helping us maintain accurate financial records throughout the year, reconciling income and expenditure, and preparing figures ahead of our annual accounts and any related filings as a community interest company.
This is a flexible, hybrid role, combining some in-person time in Bristol with remote working, at around a few hours per week, though time needed may vary depending on payroll and year-end deadlines. You will work closely with our small staff team and have direct oversight of how your work supports the organisation's day-to-day running.
We welcome volunteers with bookkeeping, accounting or payroll experience at any level, including those working toward a professional qualification who want practical, real-world experience with a small charity or social enterprise.
