Opportunity to Join a Small Fun Finance Team

You won’t just be doing just one repetitive task over and over, you will be exposed to all areas of the business, allowing you to learn practical hands-on skills covering all book-keeping tasks and payroll for both weekly and monthly paid employees.

What You'll Do at Work

An accounts/finance assistant will help gather and input data and check for errors.

  • Match off supplier invoices to purchase orders.
  • Match off delivery notes to customer orders and raise sales invoices.
  • Help to collate hours for weekly and monthly payrolls.
  • Generally assist the company with data input and analysis to help the finance department.

What You'll Learn

Course Contents

  • Assist with the investigation of, and response to, financial information queries.
  • Record and analyse financial data using the organisation’s standard tools and processes.
  • Apply double entry bookkeeping and accounting standards to process financial documents, generate financial statements, and report financial information to users of accounts.
  • Assist with production of accurate financial information for the preparation of accounts.
  • Reconcile financial data, such as preparation of reconciliations or review of reconciliations.
  • Investigate, resolve, or escalate transactional queries and errors within their remit as appropriate.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders.
  • Communicate financial information in a way that non-finance stakeholders can interpret and understand.
  • Utilise digital skills to present key financial information using finance and accounting software and applications.
  • Use software packages to assist with basic accounting tasks in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.
  • Communicate using a range of approaches and media, with an understanding of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.

Training Schedule

1 day per week at Yeovil College.

More Training Information

The apprenticeship training is delivered through a combination of workplace learning and regular college attendance. This training will teach you the knowledge, skills and behaviours set out in the Assistant Accountant. On completion the apprentice will receive Assistant Accountant Level 3 qualification. Functional Skills in Maths and English may also be required depending on current level.

Essential Qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade 9–4 / A*-C)
  • Maths (grade 9–4 / A*-C)

Other Requirements

The accounts office is situated on the first floor, accessible by stairs only.

  • You MUST be prepared to commit to your work and training for the duration of the apprenticeship.
  • In some cases, you may be required to have a telephone interview with Yeovil College prior to your application being passed on.
  • If a suitable candidate is found prior to the advertised closing date, it may close earlier so please apply early to avoid disappointment.
