Apprentice Accounts Assistant

We are looking for an Apprentice Accounts Assistant to join our growing accountancy and tax practice in Upminster. This is a great opportunity for someone looking to start their career in accountancy, gain practical office experience and work towards the Level 2 Accounts or Finance Assistant apprenticeship.

Wage: £15,600 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age. National Minimum Wage rate for apprentices. [Minimum wage rates](opens in new tab).

Training course: Accounts or finance assistant (level 2).

Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 4:00pm. 37 hours 30 minutes a week.

Start date: Monday 5 October 2026.

Duration: 1 year.

Positions available: 1.

What you'll do at work

The apprentice will support the team with basic accounts, bookkeeping and office administration tasks.

  • Help enter invoices, receipts and payments into accounting software
  • Assist with bank reconciliations
  • Organise client records
  • Request missing information from clients
  • Support the preparation of VAT return information
  • Support payroll administration
  • General client correspondence

As they gain experience, they will learn how accounts, VAT, payroll and tax deadlines work, and will be given more responsibility under supervision.

What you'll learn

Course contents:

  • Record transactional data
  • Use the organisation’s standard tools and processes to examine data to identify transactional issues, such as reconciliations and inconsistencies between invoices
  • Recognise and rectify routine errors, escalating as necessary
  • Plan and review accounting and finance tasks
  • Communicate with stakeholders to deliver accurate and timely results, avoiding jargon, using language tailored to the audience, and different media methods, with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications
  • Use finance and accounting software packages to accurately input and manage data to contribute to routine accounting tasks
  • Handle data and digital technology in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data

Training schedule

The apprentice will complete the Accounts or Finance Assistant Level 2 apprenticeship.

Training will be delivered through a combination of workplace learning at Versa Tax Solutions Ltd in Upminster and regular training sessions with the apprenticeship training provider.

The apprentice will be given time during normal working hours to complete their apprenticeship training, study and off-the-job learning.

The exact training schedule will be agreed with the training provider before the apprenticeship starts.

The apprenticeship will be structured around a combination of practical workplace experience, regular training sessions with the apprenticeship training provider and independent study.

The apprentice will be supported by the employer throughout the apprenticeship and will have regular check-ins to review progress, workload and development.

We are a growing firm with a friendly and supportive team environment. Apprentices are given practical experience, regular guidance and the opportunity to develop their skills while working with real clients and real business deadlines.

Longer term, the role could lead to further development in bookkeeping, accounts preparation, VAT, payroll or tax.
