Company Description

Today, Assystem is among the top three independent nuclear engineering firms worldwide. With over 60 years of experience in highly regulated sectors, the group supports public and industrial stakeholders in the execution of complex and strategic infrastructure projects, subject to high safety and security requirements.

Assystem mobilizes 8,000 experts in 13 countries and intervenes across the entire project lifecycle, in engineering, project management, and digital solutions.

Our Environmental Consents & Engagement (ECE) practice provides strategic environmental advice, consenting expertise, and stakeholder engagement to enable the successful delivery of major developments across the UK.

Job Description

Join Assystem and help deliver one of the UK's most significant infrastructure projects

Assystem is seeking a Consents Consultant to join our growing Acoustics Team, supporting the delivery of HS2, the high-speed railway project.

Assystem provides acoustic consultancy over a wide range of projects, from planning support or environmental permitting through to environmental impact assessments, construction support to the rail industry, and compliance monitoring.

As an Assystem employee, you will be embedded within BBV’s Environmental Services team, acting in the role of Consents Consultant (Acoustics) on behalf of the project. Working as an integrated member of the client team, you'll provide technical assurance and specialist advice on Acoustics, supporting the process of obtaining acoustic consents, in a timely manner, from each Local Planning Authority associated with the delivery of BBV's South Region of HS2.

The role offers a unique opportunity to work at the heart of one of the UK's largest infrastructure projects while remaining part of Assystem's expanding acoustic practice, providing long-term career opportunities across the infrastructure, nuclear, and defence sectors.

The Role

Working alongside BBV, contractors, and multidisciplinary project teams, you'll provide technical assurance across a broad range of noise and vibration control activities.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Acting as Assystem's embedded Consents Specialist for Acoustics within the BBV (HS2) Environmental Services team.
  • Reviewing and challenging technical reports and consent applications prepared by contractors and consultants.
  • Obtain all identified Environmental Consents (Acoustics) required for operational activities, as required.
  • Assist in the identification and consolidation of the necessary Environmental Consents (Acoustics) that may be required recognizing that requirements may change during the duration of the project.
  • Support the process of obtaining Environmental Consents (Acoustics).
  • Liaison with relevant LPA’s as necessary to deliver consents as required by the construction programme.
  • Provide feedback as required to commercial and delivery teams regarding environmental obligations as relevant to the consenting process.
  • Record all communications with third parties as evidence to support consent process.
  • Contribute to the development of knowledge within Construction teams and in the monitoring process to assist in ensuring consent compliance.
  • Providing vital support to the success of the Acoustics, Noise, and Vibration team in delivering our clients' projects, for projects other than HS2. Consultants are required to conduct noise and vibration measurements, process noise and vibration data, undertake computer modeling predictions and detailed calculations, and prepare noise and vibration assessment reports.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
