We are seeking an Acoustic Research Engineer to join a visionary research team, where your expertise will be instrumental in shaping the future of audio technology. Your work will have a profound impact on next-generation products and user experiences, leveraging a world-class audio laboratory to conduct cutting-edge research.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, conduct, and optimize audio and acoustic experiments within controlled laboratory environments.
  • Plan and develop robust acoustic measurement methodologies and data collection protocols.
  • Perform precise acoustic measurements utilizing complex capture systems, microphones, loudspeakers, prototype devices, and human participants.
  • Design and configure diverse acoustic environments to facilitate a wide range of research scenarios.
  • Develop systems, user interfaces, and workflows for acoustic and behavioral data acquisition and processing using Python and MATLAB.
  • Process, analyze, and interpret large volumes of acoustic and audio data to extract meaningful insights.
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional researchers and engineers to integrate data acquisition and signal processing algorithms into research platforms.
  • Drive improvements and automation for large-scale data collection processes, including the evaluation and integration of new laboratory equipment.
  • Apply advanced scientific programming skills to develop essential tools supporting acoustic research and experimentation.
  • Solve novel acoustics problems by designing practical experimental approaches and technical solutions.
  • Produce high-quality technical documentation, comprehensive reports, and insightful research summaries.

Must-Have Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Acoustics, Audio Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a related technical discipline, coupled with 3+ years of industry experience in audio technology development (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Proven experience in designing and conducting audio and acoustic experiments within controlled laboratory environments.
  • Strong foundational knowledge of acoustics, encompassing room acoustics, measurement techniques, and acoustic instrumentation.
  • Hands-on experience with audio signal processing and comprehensive acoustic data analysis.
  • Demonstrated experience in planning and executing audio data collection, including setting up experiments involving microphones, loudspeakers, wearable devices, and prototype hardware.
  • Strong scientific programming skills using Python and/or MATLAB.
  • Experience in developing software tools, scripts, and system architectures to support research and data acquisition.
  • Ability to work independently on open-ended technical challenges and develop innovative experimental solutions.
  • Excellent technical writing and documentation skills.

Nice-to-Have Qualifications

  • Experience with real-time audio development in C/C++.
  • Expertise in one or more specialized areas: Psychoacoustics, Auditory perception, Spatial audio, Room acoustics, or Physical acoustics.
  • Experience using machine learning frameworks.
  • Experience working with prototype hardware devices.
  • Familiarity with motion tracking systems.
  • Experience in designing and commissioning acoustic laboratory spaces.
  • Experience with large-scale automated data collection and analysis.
  • Proven ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary research teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce high-quality technical reports, publications, or research papers.
