Acoustic Research Engineer
We are seeking a skilled Acoustic Research Engineer to join a research and development team focused on advancing audio technology, acoustic systems, and immersive sound experiences. The successful candidate will support research initiatives involving acoustic measurements, audio data processing, auditory perception experiments, and the development of tools and methods using scientific programming and audio signal processing expertise.
The role will involve working with advanced acoustic environments, prototype audio hardware, and multidisciplinary research teams to develop innovative solutions in audio technology.
Responsibilities
- Develop systems, user interfaces, and protocols for acoustic and behavioural data collection and processing using tools such as Python, MATLAB, and MaxMSP.
- Collaborate with researchers and engineers to integrate data acquisition methods and processing algorithms into technical platforms.
- Conduct acoustic measurements, data collection, and auditory experiments using complex recording systems and prototype devices.
- Analyse and process acoustic data to support research outcomes.
- Prepare technical documentation and reports outlining research methods, findings, and results.

Requirements
- Master’s degree in a relevant technical discipline with 3+ years of industry experience in audio technology development, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
- 3+ years of experience designing and conducting acoustic experiments within controlled laboratory environments.
- 3+ years of programming experience using Python, MATLAB, MaxMSP, or similar tools for audio-related applications.
- Strong understanding of acoustics, audio systems, and audio signal processing principles.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with real-time audio programming using C/C++.
- Knowledge of psychoacoustics, auditory perception, spatial audio, room acoustics, or physical acoustics.
- Experience with machine learning frameworks such as PyTorch.
- Experience working with prototype hardware systems.
- Experience with motion tracking technologies.
- Experience designing large-scale automated data collection and analysis workflows.
- Experience developing or managing acoustic laboratory environments.
- Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary research teams.
- Strong technical writing skills, including experience producing research reports or publications.

Working Environment
This role is based within a specialist research environment featuring advanced acoustic facilities and laboratory spaces. The successful candidate will work closely with engineers, researchers, and technical specialists to support innovative audio technology projects.
