Job Description
Acoustics Team Leader
Lead the future of acoustics across some of the UK’s most significant infrastructure programmes.
We are looking for an experienced Acoustics Team Leader to shape and grow our acoustics capability while leading the delivery of major infrastructure projects across the UK.
You’ll work on high-profile rail, highways, and major linear infrastructure schemes, providing expert advice from planning and consenting through to design and delivery. This is a role for someone who wants to combine technical leadership, strategic client advice, and team development while working alongside planners, engineers, and environmental specialists.
What You’ll Do
Technical Leadership
- Lead and technically assure noise and vibration assessments for major infrastructure projects.
- Provide technical direction, review, and sign-off.
- Develop practical, innovative mitigation solutions that meet regulatory and client requirements.
- Act as a trusted acoustics authority within multidisciplinary teams.

Strategic Advisory & Client Engagement
- Advise clients, contractors, and developers on acoustic risk, constraints, and consenting strategy.
- Provide early-stage input to shape project strategy and support projects through delivery.
- Contribute to planning, examination, and stakeholder engagement processes, including technical submissions.
Team Leadership & Growth
- Lead, mentor, and develop a growing acoustics team.
- Build technical capability, encourage knowledge sharing, and drive innovation.
- Support recruitment and the continued growth of the acoustics business.
- Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing team culture.
Integrated Project Delivery
- Work closely with engineers, planners, and environmental specialists to embed acoustics into design and environmental strategy.
- Support delivery teams in managing noise and vibration risks during construction.
- Turn complex technical and regulatory requirements into practical, buildable solutions.

Qualifications
About You
You bring a strong combination of technical expertise, leadership capability, and delivery focus, with experience gained on complex infrastructure projects.

Essential
- Degree in Acoustics or a related discipline
- Significant experience in environmental acoustics, including major infrastructure projects
- Proven track record delivering EIA and consenting support (DCO / planning)
- Experience working on linear infrastructure (rail, highways, energy corridors)
- Strong understanding of UK noise and vibration standards and guidance
- Ability to lead multidisciplinary inputs and manage technical delivery
Desirable
- Experience working on nationally significant infrastructure projects
- Experience contributing to examinations, hearings, or expert evidence
- Chartered or working toward chartership (e.g., MIOA, CEnv, CSci)
- Experience with relevant modelling tools (e.g., CadnaA, SoundPLAN)
