Ealing Council have an exciting new opportunity for two Acquisitions Officers to join our dynamic team on a full-time basis.

At Ealing Council, we are passionate about ensuring that residents facing homelessness can access safe, suitable and affordable accommodation. As an Acquisitions Officer, you will be at the forefront of this work, securing quality temporary accommodation, building strong partnerships across the housing sector, and helping the Council respond to increasing housing demand. By expanding accommodation supply and achieving value for money, you will play a key role in supporting vulnerable households, improving housing outcomes, and delivering services that make a lasting difference to our community. Your work will directly contribute to improving housing outcomes for residents, and ensuring the Council meets its statutory housing duties. At the same time, you will help deliver value for money by negotiating competitive rates, managing accommodation costs, and supporting the effective use of public funds.

The Acquisitions Officer role:

To procure a sufficient supply of private sector accommodation to minimise homelessness in Ealing in accommodation of a suitable, type, size and location to meet the requirements of clients in housing need.

As the Acquisitions Officer you will:

  • Contact, negotiate and liaise with private sector landlords, agents, Housing Associations and developers to acquire a supply of suitable accommodation on reasonable terms.
  • Visit properties, undertake inspections and produce a schedule of works to ensure that the property is brought up to the required standard including gas and electricity safety and are suitable accommodation for the Council to use.
  • Prepare relevant lease and contract documentation, such as property leases, management agreements on behalf of the Council, and complete property inventories to ensure Council has required information as part of the contract agreement and support end of lease negotiations.

Our ideal Acquisitions Officer will have the below skills and experience:

  • Knowledge of the operation of the private sector rental market
  • Knowledge of procurement and contract management
  • Knowledge of property inspections to Decent Homes Standards.
  • Negotiating skills at the appropriate standard to liaise with landlords and agents
  • Ability to manage and direct own workload and act on own initiative
  • Experience of working with private sector landlords
