ACS Assessor

Application Deadline: 23 October 2026
Department: Construction
Employment Type: Full Time
Location: Wigan & Leigh College
Reporting To: Head of Apprenticeships
Compensation: £42,540 - £45,119 / year

Description

37 Hours per Week | Permanent | All Year Round | Point 33 - 35

Assess the evidence. Protect the standard. Help maintain confidence in safe gas competence.

Gas competence is safety-critical.

Candidates undertaking ACS assessment need to demonstrate that they can work safely, independently and to the standards expected by the gas industry.

As our ACS Gas Centre Assessor, you’ll help protect that standard.

Working within our approved Gas Assessment Centre at Pagefield, you’ll independently assess candidates undertaking ACS initial assessments and reassessments within the areas for which you’re qualified and approved.

You’ll observe practical performance, assess underpinning knowledge and make clear, evidence-based decisions about whether the required standard has been demonstrated.

This isn’t a normal teaching role. Candidates should find you professional and approachable, but you won’t coach or prompt them through their assessment. The competence they demonstrate must be their own.

This is a strong opportunity for an experienced gas professional to use their technical expertise in a different way while continuing to play an important role in maintaining standards across the industry.

What you'll do

  • Deliver ACS initial assessments and reassessments within your approved scope.
  • Observe and assess practical gas activities against current assessment requirements.
  • Assess underpinning knowledge through practical, written or oral assessment as required.
  • Make fair, consistent and evidence-based competence decisions.
  • Maintain clear, accurate and auditable assessment records.
  • Monitor safe working throughout practical assessments and intervene where necessary.
  • Prepare assessment areas, appliances, equipment and resources for safe use.
  • Maintain the boundary between independent assessment and training.
  • Take part in standardisation, internal quality assurance, external monitoring and audit activity.
  • Keep your gas competence, qualifications, approvals and CPD current.
  • Support the smooth day-to-day operation and continued development of the Gas Centre.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
