Software Controls Engineer

Join Actemium Automation Warrington, part of VINCI Energies, as a Software Controls Engineer in an engineering role that combines PLC/HMI programming, control system integration, commissioning, and technical support. You’ll collaborate with project teams, clients, and suppliers to deliver reliable and compliant automation solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, test, and commission PLCs (e.g., Siemens, Rockwell/Allen‑Bradley, or other client platforms)
- Design, configure, and deploy HMI/SCADA screens and operator interfaces
- Integrate field devices, drives, instrumentation, and networks into control systems
- Produce and maintain software documentation, functional descriptions, and FAT/SAT procedures
- Support site commissioning, fault diagnosis, and client acceptance testing
- Work with project engineers for design reviews, risk assessments, and validation activities
- Provide technical support to clients and operations teams, including remote troubleshooting
- Adhere to health, safety, and quality standards, and follow company procedures and client requirements

What You’ll Bring
- Practical experience in developing control software for industrial automation projects
- Proficiency with PLC and HMI platforms:
- Siemens TIA Portal, Step 7
- Rockwell Studio 5000, FactoryTalk (or similar)—multivendor experience is beneficial
- Understanding of industrial communications (Profinet, Ethernet/IP, Modbus) and fieldbus technologies
- Experience with variable speed drives, I/O systems, and instrumentation
- Strong documentation skills, including technical specifications, test plans, and reports
- Problem-solving mindset and the ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary teams
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to customer sites, as required
- Relevant vocational or technical qualifications (HNC/HND or equivalent) and/or demonstrable industry experience
