Promoting physical activity as a way to support our university community, this role has a significant impact on improving student and staff wellbeing across campus. A combination of structured support across key areas improves mood, reduces isolation, and boosts academic and work performance for many.

You will be a key member of the Physical Activity and Wellbeing team, working to clearly show how physical activity is a central element in improving and supporting the mental health and wellbeing of students and staff at the university, and the local community through Move More, Sheffield’s physical activity and sport strategy.

This role is primarily based at Goodwin Sports Centre, but you may on occasion be requested to work at other sites around campus, collaborating with university departments to deliver wellbeing sessions and workshops to students and staff.

This position is situated within Student Academic Services (S&AS), a department dedicated to enhancing the student experience through comprehensive support, including initiatives that promote student health and wellbeing.

Main Duties And Responsibilities

  • Working with clients with a range of medical conditions both physical and mental, as determined by the Lifestyle and Wellbeing Programme and the Occupational Health Programme inclusion criteria.
  • Conducting initial consultations with clients to establish their objectives and goals and analyse their mental wellbeing through assessments.
  • Preparing individually tailored programmes for clients including exercise and lifestyle recommendations, involving one to one meetings with clients to explore and understand needs and to prepare and agree an appropriate individual programme.
  • Carrying out thorough regular follow-up meetings to review each client’s progress, adapting their individual programme, as appropriate.
  • Maintaining detailed and accurate client documentation including notes of meetings, programmes and progress.
  • Ensuring clear, timely, and effective communication with all referral partners and relevant stakeholders, especially when addressing concerns about clients’ wellbeing, health, or safety.
  • Demonstrating empathy and sensitivity with clients, using verbal and written communication methods.
  • Acquiring knowledge about facilities and programmes offered by the University to provide a holistic approach when giving information and recommending exercise and lifestyle modifications to clients.
  • Delivering regular physical activity, wellbeing sessions and educational workshops for students and staff.
  • Provide regular reporting and feedback to assist in service improvements including evaluation and collection of data.
  • Implementing strict data and management protocols, including client confidentiality.
  • Ensuring that the referral programme protocols are adhered to and that the consultation structure is maintained throughout the scheme.
  • Working to Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and targets, both individual and those of the Sport and Physical Activity Service.
  • Attend and complete any training (including Mandatory, induction, refresher, in-house) as and when required.
  • Ensuring the safe and proper use of the equipment on a day-to-day basis by clients.
  • Support University of Sheffield Open Days on behalf of Sport & Physical Activity providing prospective students with all the relevant information.
  • Carry out other duties, commensurate with the grade and remit of the post.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
