About the role

At Hammersmith & Fulham, we are committed to making walking, wheeling and cycling the easiest and most attractive ways to travel, while supporting our ambition to tackle the climate and ecological emergency. To help deliver this ambition, we are seeking an enthusiastic Active Travel Officer to support projects that improve our streets, remove barriers to active travel and make everyday journeys safer, more accessible and more sustainable. This is an exciting opportunity to help deliver one of London's most ambitious active travel programmes while developing your transport planning and project management skills.

Working within the Council's Climate & Transport service, you will support a varied programme spanning walking, cycling, micromobility, cycle parking, school and workplace travel planning and behaviour change initiatives. You will help deliver projects that encourage residents to choose sustainable travel options and support the Council's climate and ecological emergency commitments.

A key part of the role will be supporting the planning and implementation of active travel infrastructure, including cycle parking, cycle hubs, docking stations, dropped kerbs, widened footways and improved crossings. You will also contribute to innovative trials such as micromobility schemes and secure cycle parking initiatives, helping to gather feedback and evaluate their effectiveness.

You will work closely with colleagues across the Council, Transport for London and other partners to help deliver projects to time, cost and quality. You will support engagement activities with residents, schools, businesses and community groups, assist with data collection and analysis, prepare reports and visual materials, and contribute to procurement and contractor liaison activities.

We're looking for a proactive and collaborative individual with an interest in sustainable transport and active travel. You should have strong organisational and communication skills, an understanding of walking and cycling policy and design principles, and the ability to manage tasks effectively. You will be comfortable using data and digital tools to support planning, monitoring and reporting, and will be keen to develop your knowledge and experience as part of a supportive and ambitious team.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
