Summary

The Active Travel Project Manager will play a pivotal role in delivering Council's Active Travel Capital Programme. This position involves managing the development and implementation of transport and active travel infrastructure projects valued at over £9 million. The role is crucial for enhancing sustainable travel options and improving infrastructure within the community.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Service Manager and Principal Transport Planner in developing and delivering active travel and transport infrastructure schemes.
  • Lead projects through development, design, scheme preparation, and pre-construction phases.
  • Manage projects on a day-to-day basis until transition to construction delivery and NEC project management arrangements.
  • Work collaboratively with stakeholders to develop robust and deliverable schemes.
  • Coordinate consultation and engagement activities with communities, elected members, partners, and statutory bodies.
  • Support compliance with funding requirements, design standards, and Active Travel England guidance.

Requirements

Essential Experience Required

  • Significant experience managing infrastructure, transport, highways, regeneration, or active travel projects.
  • Proven experience leading projects through planning, design, procurement, and delivery phases.
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams and managing multiple workstreams simultaneously.
  • Experience working with public sector governance processes and project management methodologies.

Essential Qualifications Required

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Transport Planning, Civil Engineering, Project Management, Construction, Geography, Planning, or a related discipline.
  • Relevant project management qualification or equivalent practical experience.

Additional Information

  • Contract Duration: 29 months with a local authority
  • Rate: £26.29/HR Umbrella
  • Working Hours: 22 hours per week
  • Location: The Crescent, Taunton, Somerset, TA1 4DY, United Kingdom
  • Work Pattern: Typically one day in office, two remote. This can be reviewed as progress.
  • Funding: Uses funding until the end of the 28/29 financial year. The set duration is 2.5 years, and depending on the start date, funding may enable additional days per week to be added in the final funded year.
  • Payment Schedule: Bi-weekly
