As an Activity Leader, you'll help bring that environment to life by creating opportunities for residents to socialize, explore interests, stay active, and enjoy meaningful moments throughout their day.

Parkway Health & Rehabilitation Center is a 141-bed skilled nursing and rehabilitation community in Boston, Massachusetts, providing Short-Term Rehabilitation and Long-Term Care. Our specialized programs support residents recovering from illness, injury, or surgery, as well as those who require ongoing skilled nursing care.

Our interdisciplinary team provides personalized care through rehabilitation therapies, nursing services, and clinical support, while working together to promote resident dignity, independence, comfort, and quality of life. Activities are an important part of that experience—helping residents maintain connections, discover new interests, celebrate milestones, and continue doing the things that bring joy and purpose to their lives.

As an Activity Leader, you'll work closely with the Director of Activities and the broader interdisciplinary team to support a vibrant activities program tailored to the interests, abilities, and individual needs of our residents.

You'll spend time getting to know residents individually—learning what they enjoy, what motivates them, and what helps them feel connected. From group recreation and social programs to one-on-one activities, you'll help create opportunities for residents to participate in ways that feel meaningful to them.

Your day may include organizing a group activity, spending one-on-one time with a resident who needs additional encouragement, helping prepare a special event, connecting with community resources, or simply creating a welcoming atmosphere where residents feel comfortable joining in.

The goal isn't simply to keep residents busy. It's to help them feel engaged, connected, and a valued part of the community.

Responsibilities

What You'll Do:

  • Assist the Director of Activities in planning and carrying out a diverse activity program designed around resident interests and abilities.
  • Approach residents on assigned units to identify and encourage participation in individual recreational and social activities.
  • Build meaningful relationships with residents and learn about their interests, preferences, and needs.
  • Observe resident participation and responses to activities and communicate relevant observations to the Director of Activities.
  • Assist with preparing resident information for care planning and required documentation.
  • Complete progress notes and other documentation as assigned.
  • Help develop and maintain relationships with community resources that can enhance the activities program.
  • Assist with planning and supporting special events, celebrations, outings, and other community activities.
  • Maintain departmental inventory of equipment and supplies and ensure materials are available when needed.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records and prepare other departmental reports as required.
  • Work collaboratively with nursing, rehabilitation, social services, and other departments to support resident engagement and quality of life.

Qualifications

Activity Leader:

  • Minimum 18 years of age required, HS diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid New York Driver’s License and clean driving record required.
  • Ability to develop good relationships with staff, volunteers, families, and visitors required.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate others, create a warm and accepting climate for residents, and be able to adapt and modify activities to meet their needs required.
  • Understanding of the rights and needs of residents required.
  • Physical stamina for constant activity required.

This position requires regular interaction with residents, coworkers, visitors, and/or supervisors. In order to ensure a safe work environment for residents, coworkers, visitors, and/or supervisors of the Company, and to permit unfettered communication between the employee and those residents, coworkers, visitors, and supervisors, this position requires that the employee be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language at an intermediate or more advanced level.
