We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Activity Coordinator to join our dedicated team at Goodmayes Hospital.
This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful difference to the lives of service users within a low-secure forensic mental health unit. The role is 37.5 hours per week, with a strong emphasis on weekend working. Weekend availability is an essential part of this role, as you will be supporting service users to access meaningful activities and maintain a structured and engaging routine across weekends.
You will play an important role in supporting service users to engage in meaningful activities that promote recovery, wellbeing, social inclusion and the development of life skills.

The Role
As an Activity Coordinator, you will play a vital role in supporting service users on their recovery journey within a structured and secure environment. By leading creative and wellbeing activities, you will help individuals develop confidence, establish routines, and enhance social skills. This is a varied role that combines therapeutic relationship-building, collaborative teamwork, and the opportunity to use your initiative and creativity to promote positive outcomes.
- Plan and deliver a range of therapeutic activities, including music, art, and sport, tailored to individual needs and goals.
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, including Occupational Therapists, Psychologists, and Nurses, to develop and implement recovery-focused interventions.
- Support service users in building confidence, routine, and social skills through meaningful occupation and engagement.
Essential Skills And Qualifications
- Level 2 qualifications and Functional Skills in English and Maths.
- Level 3 Health and Social Care qualification or equivalent.
- Experience as a gym instructor or practical knowledge on how to use gym equipment, facilitating group activities, and developing interventions in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
- Knowledge of NHS priorities, Recovery principles, and the relationship between meaningful occupation, mental health, and wellbeing.
- Strong communication, IT, engagement, and motivational skills, with flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and travel as required.

Starting with NELFT
NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop-in sessions focusing on engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.
Probationary Period
This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).
High Cost Area Supplement Outer London (B&D, Redbridge, Havering and Waltham Forest, Goodmayes)
This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (with a minimum of £4,870 to a maximum of £6,137 p.a. pro rata for part time).

Due to the nature of this role and the specific needs of the predominantly male patient population within this low secure forensic service, there is an occupational requirement for the postholder to be male. This requirement is necessary to enable the provision of care in situations where patients' privacy, dignity, personal care needs and therapeutic engagement would otherwise be compromised.
