Capita Pensions Solutions have a home-based vacancy for a qualified actuary to join our Special Projects team. Nearly qualified actuaries will also be considered for this role or someone qualified by experience.

The Special Projects team provide excellence to clients in relation to varied DB pension projects both for ongoing pension schemes and those heading towards or in the process of buy-in/out or wind-up.

Our team enable our DB pensions clients to undertake transactions and derisking exercises by confirming the quality, consistency, and reliability of pensions data.

Actuarial Consultant – Special Projects

Job Description:

Responsibilities include:

  • Taking a significant role on a wide range of DB pensions projects for DB pensions clients and bulk annuity providers and may include any/all of the below plus other project types as they arise:
  • Benefit correction/rectification exercises
  • Undertaking pre-deal due diligence for bulk annuity providers
  • Providing governance work for trustees including testing application of rules to benefits
  • Benefit creation exercises, such as contingent spouse pensions
  • Benefit calculation audits
  • Benefit calculation proforma for administration teams to use on smaller clients
  • Calculations testing (both doing calculations to test against automated results and using pensions knowledge to identify errors in/improve automated calculations)
  • Data validation/audits and improvement/creation projects
  • Benefits and data due diligence
  • Benefit summary specification creation or review
  • Attending client meetings or calls
  • Acting as the client’s primary point of contact on some projects
  • Documenting issues/results with clear communication style by email and phone
  • Producing/reviewing consulting reports on projects, as required

Key duties:

  • Supervising and checking work of junior team members, providing timely feedback and development support as appropriate
  • Working directly with actuaries within the special projects team and, if required, more widely within the actuarial department
  • Ensuring a robust audit trail is produced for all work activities
  • Liaising with administration onboarding teams and/or live administration teams to resolve identified issues in a pragmatic yet technically accurate way
  • Supporting the management of the team’s workflow to achieve client delivery

Who are we looking for?

  • A qualified actuary or nearly qualified actuary
  • A practical, wide/deep knowledge of occupational DB pensions
  • Flexibility to work on different types of DB pensions projects, sometimes simultaneously
  • Ability to deliver to tight timescales
  • Clear communication with actuaries and non-actuaries
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Experience of supporting and developing actuarial students through project work
  • Good team player, with excellent attitude and flexible approach to work
