To support our growth objectives at AXIS, we are investing significantly in our Pricing & Exposure Management systems.
This position is for an Actuarial Engineer in the Reinsurance and Enterprise Risk, Pricing & Modelling Systems department which is responsible for the development and maintenance of AXIS’ reinsurance as well as enterprise-wide pricing, modelling and exposure management systems and applications. You will be providing your experience, expertise, critical thinking, and creativity to help evolve the Actuarial and Exposure Management ecosystem in new and innovative ways while collaborating as part of a dynamic and agile team.

As part of a global team, you will be working with highly experienced talent across different time zones to enhance existing solutions and develop new ones to deliver and integrate capabilities across pricing and exposure management. In your role as actuarial engineer located in our London office you will closely collaborate with the actuarial pricing and exposure management teams and play a key role in developing AXIS’ next-generation pricing and exposure management systems
What will you do in this role?
As an Actuarial Engineer you will be involved in and lead the development of applications for pricing and exposure management.
Responsibilities include:
- Implementing and maintaining actuarial methodologies and modelling algorithms
- Enhancing, maintaining, and supporting existing modelling applications
- Interacting with actuaries, exposure managers, and an analytical-oriented user group for requirements gathering
- Interact with IT professionals
- Provide training and support to business users
- Support the development team in application end-to-end testing and business analysis
- Supporting and leading the development of modelling applications together with a highly experienced and agile development team
- Provide clear documentation on implementations
You may also be required to take on additional duties, responsibilities, and activities appropriate to the nature of this role.
About You:
We encourage you to bring your own experience and expertise to the table, so while there are some qualifications and experiences, we need you to have, we are open to discussing how your individual knowledge might lend itself to fulfilling this role and help us achieve our goals.
What you need to have:
- A university degree in a highly analytical field (e.g., Mathematics, Natural Science, Engineering or Actuarial Science)
- A high interest in (Re-)Insurance and related actuarial science, modelling, exposure management, and data analytics topics
- 3+ years’ experience in actuarial / modelling / software development
- Sound proficiency in a .NET language, C# preferred.
- Solid object-oriented programming skills
- Understanding of performance and scalability considerations
- Highly developed conceptual, analytical, and innovative problem-solving abilities
- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with others in an international and global team
- Desire to develop innovative ideas, learn from others, and share knowledge
- Keen attention to detail
- Ability to manage priorities under pressure and time constraints
- Hands-on approach to solving problems
- Strong communication skills, allowing you to interact with a diverse group of colleagues

What we prefer you to have:
- Understanding of RDBMS and Data Repositories (SQL Server, MySQL, Azure, noSQL).
- Experience with Azure cloud infrastructure and services / Big Data (Databricks, Snowflake)
- Knowledge of distributed systems and service-oriented architecture.
- Proficiency using AI tooling
- Relevant business experience in an international (Re-)Insurance company or in a broking business
- Real-life experience with Agile methodologies including Scrum; experience working with Product Backlogs using Azure DevOps or a similar toolset
- A background in specialty insurance and reinsurance, working with pricing models, exposure data, and modelled loss data
- Any previous experience that proves a high level of numeracy and an eye for detail when working with data
Role Factors:
In this role, you are required to be in the office 3 days per week.
