I'm working with a global life reinsurer on a newly created Manager-level opportunity focused on Canadian and international reporting (including Australia) for a global life reinsurer focused on retirement and longevity business.

The immediate focus will be on IFRS 17 and Canadian regulatory capital requirements, supporting a portfolio that includes longevity transactions, with broader exposure to business written across other international jurisdictions. The role will own the interpretation and analysis of local reporting results, explain movements in earnings, reserves and capital, and provide clear insight to senior stakeholders.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

This is more than a traditional production reporting role. You'll have scope to shape how the reporting capability develops as the business expands geographically, improve processes and controls, and potentially build out a team over time. The underlying portfolio provides exposure to retirement, longevity and other structured insurance solutions.

I'm looking for a qualified actuary (with at least 3 years PQE) with strong life insurance/reinsurance reporting experience and a good understanding of IFRS 17. Direct LICAT experience would be useful, but candidates with exposure to other regulatory capital frameworks should also be relevant. Experience across longevity, annuities, pension risk transfer or funded solutions would be particularly valuable.

This could particularly suit someone who enjoys the technical side of reporting but wants greater ownership, international exposure and the chance to help build something as the business grows. This is a unique chance to be a country lead for reporting on the Canadian business (based in London or Toronto), with ownership for Australian business too.
