We are looking to appoint an Administrative Assistant within our established Innovation, Research & Development (IR&D) Team.
The post holder will provide comprehensive administrative support to the IR&D team, acting as a key point of contact and source of information for staff with an interest in research and innovation, while supporting the efficient day-to-day running of the department.
This is a fixed-term, part-time post (15 hours per week for 6 months) to provide temporary cover within the team. Due to the short-term nature of the role, applicants with previous experience of working within a research and development department, research administration environment, or similar setting are particularly encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute quickly and support ongoing research activities with minimal supervision.
Experience of using Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel and Outlook, is essential.
We are looking for an organised and motivated individual with excellent communication, planning and IT skills, who can work independently, prioritise competing demands and maintain a high standard of accuracy.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
