NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the United Kingdom, employing approximately 40,000 staff across a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health services to a population of over 1.15 million people, and to a wider population of 2.2 million when regional and national services are included.

The Role

We are seeking a motivated and organised individual to join the Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) administrative team within Clyde.

The successful candidate will provide administrative support to clinicians, contributing to the efficient delivery of patient care across inpatient and outpatient services. This is a varied role supporting both day-to-day administrative tasks and typing of clinical documentation.

You will be part of a busy and supportive team, ensuring that patient information is processed accurately and within required timescales.

This role does not meet the eligibility criteria for a or a NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is unable to provide candidates or employees with a Certificate of Sponsorship (COS).

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern

  • Location: Based in Inverclyde Royal Hospital
  • Part-time position: 15 hours per week
  • Shift pattern: Monday to Friday (hours to be agreed to maintain service cover)
  • Permanent Contract

Please note the salary is Pro Rata for part time hours.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administrative Support: Provide general clerical support including filing, scanning, processing mail and maintaining patient records.
  • Typing: Type outpatient letters and reports, ensuring accuracy and timely turnaround
  • Communication: Deal with a wide range of enquiries from patients, relatives and staff, including those with communication impairments, using patience, sensitivity and appropriate communication techniques
  • Patient Coordination: Answer telephone enquiries, take messages and assist with booking, cancelling and rearranging appointments
  • Systems Management: Input and update patient information on systems such as TrakCare and Clinical Portal
  • Waiting List Support: Assist with maintaining appointment systems and supporting waiting list management
  • Team Support: Work with administrative and clinical staff to support the smooth running of the service

Knowledge, Training, Qualifications and/or Experience Required to Do the Job

  • Experience: Previous administrative or clerical experience is essential
  • Skills: Good IT skills including Microsoft Office and keyboard skills with attention to accuracy
  • Knowledge: Understanding of confidentiality and patient care awareness; knowledge of medical terminology is desirable
  • Attributes: Ability to prioritise workload, follow instructions and work both independently and as part of a team. Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of individuals, including those with communication difficulties, demonstrating patience, empathy and adaptability
