The Position
A new opportunity has arisen for an experienced, motivated and highly organised Administration Team Leader to join the Community Mental Health Team (CMHT). This is a varied dual-function role, combining day-to-day leadership of the administration service with the provision of high-quality medical secretarial support to Consultant Psychiatrists and adult psychiatry services.
The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the smooth and effective delivery of administrative and secretarial functions that support safe, responsive and person-centred mental health care within the community. Working within a busy and complex environment, the post holder will provide operational oversight of the administration team, ensuring effective systems and processes are in place to support clinicians, service users and the wider multidisciplinary team.
As Administration Team Leader, the post holder will provide day-to-day supervision and support to administrative staff, coordinating workloads, overseeing priorities and ensuring the delivery of an efficient and responsive administration service. The role will include supporting staff induction, training and supervision, while working closely with operational managers and clinical leads to support service performance and improvement.

Alongside leadership responsibilities, the post holder will provide comprehensive medical secretarial support to Consultant Psychiatrists and adult mental health medical staff, including the preparation of clinical correspondence, diary and appointment management, clinic coordination, referral processing and liaison with service users, carers, GP practices and partner agencies.
The successful candidate will be expected to manage confidential and sensitive information with professionalism and discretion, prioritise competing demands effectively and work collaboratively with multidisciplinary professionals to support the delivery of high-quality community mental health services.
The Candidate
You will be an experienced administrator, with an HNC in Administration or a similar qualification. You will be well organised, have good planning and communication skills, and have experience of managing or supervising people.
Location, Working Pattern and Contract Duration:
- This post will be based at Vaenta
- The successful candidate will work Full Time 36 hours per week
- This post is Permanent
It is a condition of this employment that you must live and remain a resident within the UK for the post in which you will be employed with NHS Orkney.

- The salary for this post is Band 4 £31,537 – £34,303
- If residing on Orkney, you’ll also receive a Distant Islands Allowance of £1,719 pro rata per annum, adding extra value to your rewarding career with us.
