I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

This isn’t a role where every task will always arrive with a detailed set of instructions. We are looking for someone who is comfortable thinking, “I can sort that,” and then finding a sensible way to get it done.
What we’re looking for
The right person will be:
- Highly organised: you enjoy keeping on top of multiple tasks and making sure things get finished
- Reliable: if you say you’re going to do something, the team can trust that it will get done
- A strong communicator: confident communicating with colleagues, clients, suppliers and other contacts, both in writing and over the phone
- Proactive: you notice what needs doing rather than always waiting to be asked
- Flexible: you’re happy working in a growing business where priorities can sometimes change
- Practical: when something needs solving, your instinct is to find a solution
- Comfortable with technology: able to confidently use everyday office software and learn new systems
- A team player: you enjoy being part of a collaborative team and helping other people do their jobs well
