About Redfern
Redfern Energy is a privately owned, multidisciplinary engineering and construction company based in Atherton, Greater Manchester, supporting customers and projects throughout the UK.
Founded in 2017, we work across the oil, gas, electricity, water and telecommunications sectors, as well as the wider engineering, manufacturing and industrial sectors.
Our work is varied and includes engineering and infrastructure projects, site services, pipeline maintenance, construction and enabling works, project management, engineering consultancy, design and precision engineering.
We are a growing business with a strong focus on safety, quality, communication and continuous improvement, and we are looking for the right person to become an important part of our office team.
The Role
We are looking for a proactive and highly organised Office Administrator to support the day-to-day running of our office and wider business.
You will provide support across a number of areas within the business, including general administration, project support, compliance documentation and communication with employees, subcontractors, customers and suppliers.
We are looking for someone who is organised, proactive, comfortable taking ownership of their work and not afraid to ask questions. You will be expected to follow tasks through to completion, keep on top of outstanding actions and ensure information is chased, recorded and properly closed out.
What You'll Be Doing
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing general administrative support across the business.
- Preparing, updating, formatting and maintaining company documents and records.
- Managing emails, correspondence and general office communications professionally.
- Assisting with project and engineering administrative tasks.
- Supporting the preparation and organisation of project documentation.
- Helping to maintain personnel, training, competency and other business records.
- Updating spreadsheets, trackers, registers and internal systems.
- Processing and filing documentation accurately.
- Following up outstanding information, documents and actions with the relevant people.
- Helping coordinate meetings, appointments, training and other business activities.
- Assisting with procurement, supplier documentation and general commercial administration where required.
- Maintaining organised electronic and physical filing systems.
- Identifying missing information or outstanding actions rather than simply filing incomplete work.
- Supporting the wider office team with ad-hoc administrative tasks as required.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

- Confident - you're comfortable speaking to colleagues, customers, suppliers and contractors.
- A clear communicator - you can communicate professionally and appropriately by telephone, email and in person.
- Detail-focused - you notice when information is missing, incorrect or doesn't quite make sense.
- Accountable - you take ownership of your work and follow actions through to completion.
- Quick to learn - you're comfortable learning new systems, processes and terminology.
- Comfortable asking questions - if you're unsure, you'll find out rather than guess.
- Able to prioritise - you can recognise what needs attention first when several things are happening at once.
- Professional - you understand that the information, documents and communications you handle represent the company.
- Computer confident - particularly with Microsoft Office 360 (Word, Outlook and Excel) with the ability to learn other business systems.
