We are looking for an Administrator to join us at Tamar Energy Community (TEC).
Tamar Energy Community is a non-profit community energy organisation. We’re run by our team of voluntary directors and our aims are to reduce fuel poverty and tackle the Climate Emergency through providing quality and impartial energy advice and support; and developing community-led renewable energy generation schemes that provide a direct benefit to the local community. We work across West Devon and the Tamar Valley and are an active member of a network of community energy groups in Devon, working closely with our local authorities and other stakeholders.
Working week: Self-employed role (average 4-6 hours a week)
Duration: 1 year fixed term contract (3 month probationary period) with potential for extension
Location: Home based working
Rate: Hourly rate £17.00
The Role
We need an enthusiastic administrator to help us manage and administer this community enterprise. This is a great opportunity for someone interested in joining an organisation making a difference in their community. The administrator will be a key and valued member of the team.
You will be working across three main activities TEC operate which are:
- Management of our small portfolio of seven community owned solar PV installations at schools and other businesses
- Running an Energy Advice Service for residents across West Devon and S. E Cornwall which includes Home visits and support for people in fuel poverty, vulnerable or just need some independent advice and support.
- Advocating for local clean energy solutions across our communities e.g through talks, events and stakeholder engagement

The role will include:
- Administering systems for managing volunteers, time sheets, receipts and payments, correspondence etc.
- Promoting the TEC membership scheme and managing membership records.
- Keeping track of income and expenditure with the support of our accounting system XERO.
- Updating spreadsheets with data from our solar installations and invoicing those sites.
- Assisting with administrative tasks relating to our annual events and attending where necessary.
- Provide additional support as requested by senior colleagues at TEC
About You
You are a personable and outgoing team worker who is able to work independently. You are able to use initiative and ask for help when needed. If you welcome the opportunity to develop your skills and our services to improve people’s lives and homes for our low carbon future, then read on.
Here’s what we’re looking for
- You are highly organised, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- You are able to work proactively, independently and flexibly and with minimal supervision much of the time
- You will have strong IT skills and be comfortable with standard Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Excel and Word; and administration. Have a good grounding in the accounts package Xero. Experience of social media would be desirable.
- You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills and a friendly but professional approach when dealing with clients, colleagues and partners
- You will be confident to share your progress with the team and know when you need to pick up the phone, or ask for help, when necessary to avoid getting stuck
- You are motivated by making a difference to our clients, so you will bring tenacity and resourcefulness to the task of finding a solution to sometimes complex problems
- You will be able to work with a diverse range of customers and colleagues
- You can be trusted to handle sensitive personal client data respectfully in accordance with GDPR
- You will have a full driving licence and ability to travel independently to meetings or events
