I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
Start with a chat, not a search bar
Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Experience fit
Your summer at the bank plus your econometrics coursework map directly to the day-one responsibilities on this scheme — client modelling, market briefings, and deal support.
Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
- You’ll manage director’s diaries
- Communicate with clients
- Update the internal system
- Basic invoicing and reporting
- Eventually, you’ll be the focal point of updating and improving office procedures and processes
So this won’t suit someone who just takes each day as it comes/ does the bare minimum, and is happy just going through the motions - this needs someone with a desire to do well, a bit of a “dog with a bone” type, career driven, focused, wants to support a small business and go that extra mile.
“Small business mentality” springs to mind! Someone comfortable with sitting in an open plan, small office, happy to speak up, challenge the status quo, give ideas to directors, and be apart of something genuinely fantastic.

Such a mega role, directors are down to earth, they’re relentless, work ethic off the scale, but enjoy it too, love to have a laugh, bit of banter and get the kettle on for their staff when a brew round is needed.
City centre based, but with free parking on site - what a bonus that is. Full time office based, everyone loves being in so nobody wants to be hybrid here.
