I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

The Opportunity
An award-winning, values-led specialist rehabilitation provider in the personal injury sector, delivering psychological support and case management to people and families whose lives have been turned upside down. Their founder and Managing Director is a respected, outspoken and highly driven leader, and the business is growing.
She needs a right hand: someone to keep her working day running smoothly and to make sure the business’s expertise is seen and heard by the solicitors, case managers and referrers it serves. This is a newly shaped role that sits closer to the MD than anyone else in the business.
What you’ll be doing as Administrator and Executive Support:
A quick word on the balance. Right now, this role leans firmly towards the executive support side. The marketing and social media work is mainly about scheduling and posting content and repurposing what already exists, rather than creating everything from scratch. If you’re genuinely creative and love making content, there’s room for that side to grow as you get to know the business and the sector. But first and foremost, she needs someone who is driven by the EA work and gets real satisfaction from keeping a busy MD organised.
- Taking charge of the MD’s inbox and diary, so nothing slips and her time goes on what matters most
- Chasing outstanding actions and drafting internal communications on the MD’s behalf
- Preparing the MD for event attendance to support business development
- Supporting with any clinical administration such as filing documents and emails
- Supporting with any marketing administration needed
- Gathering data from different parts of the business as required and reporting back
