The Children and Families Department takes a strengths-based approach to working with each other, children, young people and families, and our partner agencies. We call this 'Our Nottinghamshire Approach'. Watch the two minute animation to learn more.

Adoption East Midlands (AEM) is a Regional Adoption Agency delivering adoption services (recruitment, family finding, adoption panels and adoption support) on behalf of Derby, Derbyshire, Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Local Authorities. The service is hosted by Nottinghamshire County Council, who are also the employer. We are committed to providing high-quality adoption services that enable children to thrive in safe, loving and nurturing families.

AEM recruit in the region of 60 adoptive families a year, place approximately 130 children and support approximately 800 families at any one time. The staff group is approximately 80 FTE and AEM seeks to be a reflective and dynamic employer and service provider. Operational since April 2019, this is an exciting time in our development as we continue to shape our service to meet the needs of adoptive families by developing new working practices and models of support to ensure children and young people and their families are fully and effectively supported throughout their adoption journey.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
