Job Title: Locum Speech and Language Therapist – Edgware Hospital
Banding: Band 6/7
Location: Edgware
Start Date: ASAP
Duration: 3 months
Salary: £24.00–£32.00 per hour
Working Hours: Part-time or Full-time
Job Overview
We are currently seeking an experienced and dedicated Speech and Language Therapist (SALT) to join a mental health ward at Edgware Hospital on a locum basis. This is a 3-month opportunity suitable for a Band 6 or Band 7 therapist, with part-time and full-time hours available.
The successful candidate will provide specialist Speech and Language Therapy support to patients experiencing communication difficulties and dysphagia. You will play an important role in assessing and supporting patients with swallowing difficulties, as well as identifying and managing communication challenges within a mental health setting.
This role is ideal for a therapist with previous dysphagia experience who is confident working as part of a multidisciplinary team and is looking to contribute their expertise within a hospital-based mental health environment.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Provide specialist Speech and Language Therapy assessment and intervention for patients on a mental health ward.
- Undertake dysphagia assessments and provide appropriate recommendations to support safe and effective swallowing.
- Assess and support patients experiencing a range of communication difficulties.
- Develop and implement individualized therapy and management plans based on patients’ needs.
- Work collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure effective patient-centred care.
- Provide advice and guidance to patients, carers, and other professionals regarding communication and swallowing needs.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date clinical records in line with professional standards.
- Contribute to multidisciplinary team meetings and patient reviews where appropriate.

Qualifications and Experience
To be considered for this role, you must have:
- A recognised degree in Speech and Language Therapy (or equivalent).
- HCPC registration and eligibility for membership of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT).
- Previous experience working with dysphagia, including dysphagia assessment and management.
- Experience supporting patients with communication difficulties.
- The ability to work effectively within a mental health or hospital-based setting.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and multidisciplinary working skills.
- A proactive, adaptable, and patient-centred approach to clinical practice.
