I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

About The Role
Deliver, assess and monitor relevant high quality learning activities, which will enable learners to achieve their proposed learning outcomes and ambition for further study or employment; and that standards in teaching learning and assessment continue to improve towards outstanding across the service, meeting funders and Ofsted minimum levels of performance and therefore contributing to national and locally agreed targets.
About The Team You’ll Be Working In
Hounslow Adult and Community Education (known as Learn Hounslow) delivers the council’s Adult Education Budget allocation, which funds a range of learning opportunities to help adults develop their knowledge, skills and confidence so they can re-skill, up-skill, move into work, improve their prospects and support their families. We are currently seeking to increase our part-time sessional tutor panel, and invite suitably qualified and experienced tutors with a passion for their specialist subject and the ability to engage with adults in a positive manner to deliver and assess learning. On vocational courses at L2 and above this could involve assessing competence in the workplace depending on the needs of the team. Teaching and learning with HACE takes place both in our centres, as well as online in ‘live’ timetabled sessions.
