Summary
You will provide 1:1, group support to adults with mental health needs, learning disabilities and other complex needs, helping tenants to develop their independence and achieve their personal goals. This is a rewarding opportunity to gain valuable experience in adult social care while completing your Level 3 Adult Care Worker Apprenticeship.

£15,392 to £24,454.04, depending on your age

Full time - Monday - Sunday. The role involves working evenings and weekends, as Newbarn provides support services 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. The exact working pattern will be discussed with the successful candidate.

What you'll do at work
Newbarn Ltd are looking for an enthusiastic and committed individual to join their team as an Adult Care Worker Apprentice / Support Worker. You will work alongside experienced Support Workers to provide person-centred support to tenants, helping them to live as independently as possible and achieve positive outcomes.
The role involves supporting adults with a range of needs, including mental health problems, learning disabilities, Autistic Spectrum Conditions and substance misuse issues. Your main duties will include:
- Providing 1:1 and group support to tenants
- Building positive, trusting and professional relationships with tenants
- Supporting tenants to achieve their personal, social, leisure, learning and employment goals
- Encouraging and supporting independence in everyday life
- Supporting tenants with shopping and budgeting
- Helping tenants with meal preparation, cooking and healthy eating
- Supporting tenants to maintain a safe, clean and secure home
- Supporting tenants to attend GP, dental, optical and other health appointments
- Encouraging tenants to take part in social activities and community activities
- Supporting tenants with personal care where required
- Supporting health and wellbeing
- Assisting with medication procedures following appropriate training
- Supporting individual Support Plans, Risk Assessments and Health Action Plans
- Helping tenants with tenancy-related responsibilities
- Supporting health and safety checks within properties
- Completing accurate records and support notes following support sessions
- Completing incident reports and other relevant documentation
- Liaising with families, carers, care managers and other professionals
- Attending staff meetings, supervision and multi-agency meetings where required
- Following safeguarding, confidentiality, health and safety and other organisational policies
- Completing mandatory and apprenticeship training
- Developing your own knowledge, skills and professional practice throughout the apprenticeship
You will be encouraged to learn from experienced colleagues and gradually take on greater responsibility as your confidence and competence develops.

What you'll learn
- Support individuals they are working with according to their personal care/support plan
- Take the initiative when working outside normal duties and responsibilities
- Recognise and access help when not confident or skilled in any aspect of the role that they are undertaking
- Implement/facilitate the specialist assessment of social, physical, emotional and spiritual needs of individuals with cognitive, sensory and physical impairments
- Contribute to the development and ongoing review of care/support plans for the individuals they support
- Provide individuals with information to enable them to exercise choice on how they are supported
- Encourage individuals to actively participate in the way their care and support is delivered
- Ensure that individuals know what they are agreeing to regarding the way in which they are supported
- Lead and support colleagues to understand how to establish informed consent when providing care and support
- Guide, mentor and contribute to the development of colleagues in the execution of their duties and responsibilities
- Demonstrate dignity in their working role with individuals they support, their families, carers and other professionals
- Support others to understand the importance of equality, diversity and inclusion in social care

- Demonstrate and promote to other workers excellent communication skills including confirmation of understanding to individuals, their families, carers and professionals
- Use and facilitate methods of communication preferred by the individual they support according to the individual’s language, cultural and sensory needs, wishes and preferences
- Take the initiative and reduce environmental barriers to communication
- Demonstrate and ensure that records and reports are written clearly and concisely
- Lead and support others to keep information safe, preserve confidentiality in accordance with agreed ways of working
- Support others, to recognise and respond to potential signs of abuse according to agreed ways of working
- Work in partnership with external agencies to respond to concerns of abuse
- Lead and support others to address conflicts or dilemmas that may arise between an individual’s rights and duty of care

Training schedule
The successful candidate will complete a Level 3 Adult Care Worker Apprenticeship through Rochdale Training Association. You will receive a combination of workplace learning and structured off-the-job training, developing the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to work effectively within adult social care.
Training will include areas such as:
