We are Hiring: Job Title: Adult & Children Solicitor
Location: Swindon (Hybrid/Office-based as required)
Contract: Temporary
Rate: £38.20 per hour (Inside IR35)
Hours: Full-time
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Solicitor to join the Legal Services team, providing expert legal advice across Adult Social Care and Children's Services. You will manage a varied caseload, represent the Council in court, advise senior officers and members, and support complex safeguarding, care, education, and Court of Protection matters.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a personal caseload of Adult and Children's legal matters.
- Provide timely, practical legal advice to Council officers and elected members.
- Conduct advocacy in County Court, Magistrates' Court and Court of Protection where appropriate.
- Draft legal documentation, court applications, pleadings, agreements and reports.
- Represent the Council in public law proceedings from pre-proceedings through to final hearings.
- Attend client meetings, committees, hearings and case conferences.
- Advise on legal risk and ensure compliance with legislation and Council policies.
- Mentor junior legal staff and contribute to continuous service improvement.

Essential Experience
- Qualified Solicitor, Barrister or FILEX with a current practising certificate.
- Strong experience within Local Government Adult and/or Children's Services Law.
- Experience handling care proceedings from Legal Planning Meeting (LPM) through to final hearing.
- Court advocacy experience, including contested hearings.
- Excellent drafting, negotiation and case management skills.

- Discharge of Care Orders and Placement Orders
- Deprivation of Liberty for children
