Job Overview
We are currently seeking an experienced and dedicated Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist (SALT) to join a clinical team based at the Pentz Building, The Open University Campus, Walton Hall, Milton Keynes. This is an exciting locum opportunity to provide specialist assessment, treatment, and management for adults with acquired speech, language, and communication needs, as well as eating and drinking difficulties.
The successful candidate will support adults experiencing communication and swallowing difficulties arising from neurological and progressive conditions, age-related changes, and other health conditions. Working across a range of community settings, you will play a key role in developing and delivering tailored intervention plans to support patients' communication, swallowing safety, independence, and overall quality of life.
This opportunity is ideal for a confident and skilled Speech and Language Therapist with experience in adult services who is passionate about delivering high-quality, person-centred care and working collaboratively with patients, families, carers, and other healthcare professionals.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Carry out comprehensive assessments of adults presenting with acquired speech, language, and communication needs.
- Assess, treat, and manage adults experiencing eating, drinking, and swallowing difficulties, including dysphagia.
- Develop and implement individualised treatment plans based on patients' clinical needs, goals, and circumstances.
- Support adults with communication and swallowing difficulties associated with neurological and progressive conditions, age-related changes, and other health conditions.
- Deliver appropriate therapeutic interventions across a range of community settings.
- Monitor patients' progress, review treatment outcomes, and adapt intervention plans as required.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date clinical documentation in accordance with professional standards and local policies.
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, patients, families, and carers to ensure coordinated and effective care.
- Provide appropriate advice and guidance to support communication, safe eating and drinking, and patient independence.

Qualifications and Experience
To be considered for this role, you should have:
- A recognised degree or equivalent qualification in Speech and Language Therapy.
- Current Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registration.
- Relevant experience working with adults with acquired communication and swallowing difficulties.
- Experience assessing and managing dysphagia and communication needs associated with neurological or progressive conditions.
- The ability to independently assess patients, develop treatment plans, and deliver evidence-based therapeutic interventions.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and clinical reasoning skills.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage a varied caseload across community settings.
- A proactive, compassionate, and patient-centred approach to care.
- The ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
